11 September - 1 October 2005
“[interpreting landscape]”
[interpereting] landscape, a group exhibition of artists from the Cape, is opened at the Association of Arts Pretoria’s Mackie Street gallery, by Peter Binsbergen, on Sunday 11 September 2005 at 17:30 for 18:00.
The exhibition consists of photographs by Lien Botha, oil-tempera paintings by Alice Goldin, oil paintings on canvas by Merle de Jager, etchings by Lyn Smuts, oil paintings by Julia Teale and etchings and oil paintings by Judy Woodborne. Each artist has interpreted the theme of landscape in their own manner.
Presented are the traditional vistas - such as Alice Goldin and Judy Woodborne's works, to the idea of the botanical details of landscape as Lien Botha presents her images. Merle de Jager uses the notion of found objects in landscape and Lyn Smuts works with the idea of sound images - landscape portrayed through the visualization of sound and Julia Teale works within the mystery of the landscape thus producing highly evocative and mysterious images.
