Hardus Koekemoer

“Totem” is what Hardus Koekemoer calls his forthcoming exhibition of small paintings in the Mackie Street art gallery of the Association of Arts Pretoria. The exhibition is opened by Zuanda Badenhorst on Wednesday 4 May 2005 at 18:30 for 19:00 and runs till 31 May 2005.

Koekemoer is a versatile and ingenious artist with a number of successful exhibitions locally and overseas, especially in Belgium where his work is very popular. He is known for his primitive and naïve expressionism and his brilliant depiction of animal characters in African mythologies and history. With his Totem exhibition he explores the mystical relationship between the indigenous tribe and its totem animals from whence the tribe receives its sense of protection and spiritual strength.
