Isabel le Roux - Solo Exhibition
7 August - 25 August 2005

Press Release

Isabel le Roux, one of our most popular artists, holds an exhibition of her latest oil and acrylic paintings which she calls “The Colour of Time”, in the Mackie Street Art Gallery of the Association of Arts Pretoria, from 7 to 25 August 2005. The opening by the delightful actress, singer and cabaret star Amanda Strydom is on Sunday 7 August 2005 at 17:30 for 18:00 and the preview is on Saturday, 6 August 2005 from 10:00 to 12:00.

An exhibition by Isabel le Roux is always an event of much pleasure. The art public admires her work for its deft and exuberant colouring, its bold compositions and spontaneous appeal. Her coming exhibition is a visual feast.

Her recent sojourns in Paris and Venice, inspired most of the abundantly colourful and stylish works on display. The artist moulds some world famous paintings, such as Monet’s “Garden in Giverny” and Manet’s “French picnic on the grass” into modern and vibrant versions. With her scintillating “Fly with the wind” and “Kiss of the sun”, she combines Western and African imagery and with her Venice paintings she intertwines old world grandeur with indigenous ornamentation.

Her Paris works, such as “French Bistro”, “L’amour”, “Trois Amies” and others, are luxuriantly construed, sensuous and full of lyricism. In almost vivid contrast, her eye-catching “Times of Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring” are more abstract and boldly expressionistic.
