Rina Stutzer - Solo Exhibition
2 September - 30 September 2005

“Construction Site”

In her recent series of oil paintings, Rina Stutzer, explores the animal. Her coming exhibition illuminates the concept of the animal as man-made. The change in the biologic animal signifies loss of the real and the natural. In addition, humans deal more increasingly with culturally altered representations of animals in stead of living animals. In all, her works present a tongue-in-the-cheek view between a past and present. The pre-modern man subjected, worshipped and sacrificed the animal, but during industrialisation and capitalism this relationship has been corrupted. The animal has disappeared to make space for urbanization and mega-structures. Accordingly, the pre-modern totem animal is being compared to the post-modern mega-structure. This being a metaphor for the human condition, always striving to control and alter, but more importantly moving away from the real towards the artificial.
