“North & South”

Molongwana Tony Makou & Emile Manefeldt

Tony Makou and Emile Manefeldt are holding a joint exhibition of their work entitled “North and South” in the Mackie Street gallery of the Association of Arts Pretoria from 24 April to 12 May 2005.

Molongwana Tony Makou is a well-known sculptor and a receiver of prizes and awards. Since 1977, he participated nationally and internationally in more than 20 exhibitions. His wood sculptures spontaneously create a harmony of line and form with strong musical and poetical undertones. Some of his works evoke personal memories of past musicians and poets, others explore the mysteries and spirit of the animal world.

With more than 30 group and solo exhibitions, Emile Manefeldt’s works are a collection of sketches, collages and paintings in which he combines an array of materials such as wood, handmade paper and also feathers. They are richly inspired by mythology, ancient and Renaissance art as well as by the lustre of the animal and plant worlds and create a vibrant dialogue with the onlooker.

The exhibition is opened by Dr Piet Muller, Chairman of the Association of Arts Pretoria, on Sunday 24 April 2005 at 17:30 for 18:00.
