In these latest paintings on canvas and paper, a particular kind of tension emerges, one that lives between who we are and who we are in the process of becoming.

 

Mostert paints what usually goes unseen: the emotional residue left in a room after an argument, the way grief reshapes a body from the inside, the strange expansion of the self in an unfamiliar place. Working intuitively across mediums, she builds each composition through layers of paint, of feeling, of accumulated experience, until the surface holds something true.

 

Always Becoming is a meditation on impermanence and identity: the understanding that we are never fixed, only ever mid-transformation. In bold, expressive colour and with a brush that moves like thought, Mostert reminds us that becoming is not a destination. It is the whole of it.
