Art Exhibitions

Shape Town

Opening: 24 November 2018 at 10:00 - 23 December 2018

Belinda Ormond takes inspiration from architectural and organic forms, weaving together Cape Town's layered history, social geographies and natural treasures in her newest solo project Shape Town, an exhibition of ceramic sculptures.

The Protea kingdom, the passing whales, the leaning pines on Devil's Peak, the clouds which race over Table Mountain in summer, the Kalk Bay fishing vessels, places of worship, our guardian lighthouses, and the city skyline, amongst other recognisable forms, have been sculptured into free standing ceramic poems.

Ormond says of her work: "I enjoy the constant challenge of materialising the objects that rise up in my imagination; for this reason my work changes course as my efforts follow my inspiration. I like to think my work is a balance between the practical and the fanciful."
