Exhibition of mixed media work
24 March 2019
Dreams and Perceptions
Jessica’s work is of an illustrative style. She is preoccupied with figurative drawing, representing a world imagined. Jessica is often inspired by her dreams and likes to put them on paper where they lend themselves to a visual interpretation.
“I prefer not to analyse the images that come to me and rely on the subconscious and the creative mind to bring each work into being.”
The medium is predominantly pencil, fine pen and ink and watercolour, with elements of collage, pastel and charcoal.
Still Life Still Places
With this exhibition, John Clarke conveys a particular vision distilled from many years of travelling, collecting and recording images. He is cognizant of geological forms, mining activity, battlefields, domestic structures, and the artefacts and debris of past and present inhabitants.
Elements of landscape and still life merge or are juxtaposed.
A quality of stillness permeates his work that does not exclude a pictorial play involving light, form, shadow and tensions relating to placement and the ‘space between’.
He works exclusively on paper, using pencil, metal point, pastel or a printing process and he enjoys the dry, powdery quality of pastel, fragile yet versatile. As a printmaker, he has had a longstanding interest in the history of printing and the characteristics and visual possibilities associated with different traditional printing processes. For this exhibition, he focused on digital stylus drawing and inkjet printmaking.
