Ceramic Work

11 April 2019

Nalize Venter uses clay to create female figures, playing with the idea of earthly freedom, with creatures of air, land and water. The birds and animals represent the souls of humans who are free, full of joy and harmony. In a world full of demands, standards and stress one needs to find a space in your life where calm and freedom can reign. Clay has become the artist's means to a calmer space which she uses to create glimpses of freedom and joy in the version of a female figure with zoomorphic features, or being submerged in cool calming water.
The Artist grew up in Rustenburg and studied Fine Arts at the Tshwane University of Technology where she completed her BTech in 2014. She then became a part-time lecturer at the University teaching 1st, 2nd and 3rd years Ceramics. At the end of 2017, she moved back to Rustenburg where she opened up her own pottery studio in January 2018, called Ginger studio. Daily pottery classes are given in sculpture, hand building and wheel work.
