Posted on May 24, 2018.

StateoftheART is delighted to announce the launch of the StateoftheART Gallery Award, a visual arts prize aimed at uncovering emerging South African talent. Entry is open to all artists who are permanently resident in South Africa, aged 18 years and older, and who have not yet had a solo exhibition with a commercial gallery.

Local judges will choose finalists whose work will go on show in a group exhibition at the Cape Town gallery in September 2018 for a final round of judging.

All shortlisted artists will have the opportunity to join StateoftheART as one of the gallery's featured artists. The overall winner of the StateoftheART Gallery Award will be announced before the conclusion of the Group Finalist’s Exhibition and receive a R10 000 cash prize and solo exhibition.

How to Apply

The Award is aimed at artists working in one or more of the following media: drawing, printmaking, painting, photography, digital art, and sculpture. Performance, video and sound art are excluded.

Entry must be made online through the StateoftheART Gallery website and will close at midnight on 15 July 2018.

All entrants are required to submit a minimum of four individual works which define their theme, signature and aesthetic as an artist. Entry is free.
