Cryptic Fragments I - V

The watercolours are based on a book I made where I have selected fragments of images from many sources and from thousands and thousands of photographs. The images are “hieroglyphs” that contain knowledge of events that have occurred over time. Surfaces undergo a process of accumulation and disintegration that can be interpreted.

The watercolour fragments are basically landscapes but not the conventional idyllic depiction; rather landscapes as they are today – oil spilt, polluted, dug up, built, war torn, burned, stained, blurred. Ironically the desecrated landscapes often have their own strange beauty.
