Battiss published nine books and wrote many articles. He also founded the art periodical, ‘De Arte’ in 1965, which was published by UNISA.

Published privately by the Red Fawn Press, Printed by Wallachs' Limited, Pretoria, 1939. Soft cover. The book comprises 36 pages of illustrated text bound in illustrated heavy paper wraps, bound with the original leather thong. The accompanying "Special Portfolio of Reproductions" comprises 33 loose plates, each pasted on light brown paper numbered and with explanatory typed text.
