Danelle Janse van Rensburg - Crossing a red line

An exhibition of delicately hand-cut wooden sculptures and experimental drawings.

Danelle Janse van Rensburg is a Pretoria sculptor and drawing artist who participated in and was a finalist in quite a number of prestigious art competitions. In 2013 the Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Competition awarded her with the Merit Award for best sculpture.

Her forthcoming exhibition of wooden sculptures called 'Crossing a Red Line' is a follow-up of her previous exhibition, 'SAFE'. The theme of her new exhibition depicts the dangers when crossing the red danger line by going beyond the taboos and boundaries of the safe world of social convention. Her sculptures demand a physical connection with each piece. The lines created by the blade become metaphors for the scars inflicted by abuse.
