LEGACY BY HELENA HUGO

Hugo is known for her detailed drawings of people, mostly hand labourers. Lately she has started to experiment with various mediums: fibre arts, using re-appropriated clothing previously worn and owned by migrant workers, photography and printmaking. Through these mediums she investigates the frailty of human life and the even greater precarious fragility of nature.

In her exhibition 'Legacy' she explores the unease we as humans experience with the idea of the loss of 'self' which can be equaled to the fear of death and how it sometimes manifests in destructive behaviour towards other humans, animals and nature. Fueled by our need to dominate or to possess, it also becomes apparent in our need to be remembered.
