The exhibition opens with an evening of performance, poetry, and conversation celebrating Southern Africa's connections to Antarctica. The programme features a live performance by Campbell Meas and Senna-Marie Bosman, a welcome and curatorial address by Dr Sikho Siyotula-Siegemund, an introduction to the Antarctic Artists and Writers Programme (AWP) Pilot by Professor Charne Lavery, and a poetry reading by Professor Mehita Iqani from her chapbook Standby. The evening concludes with the official opening of the exhibition, followed by drinks and exhibition viewing.

Antarctica and Ancestral Memory
A public discussion exploring the relationships between Antarctica, memory, Indigenous knowledge, landscape, and Southern African cultural histories. We warmly invite elders and community members who remember ceremonies for praying for rain to share how these ceremonies were conducted and what they meant within their communities, contributing to a conversation that brings together oral history, cultural memory, and contemporary understandings of the environment.
