![]() Collected Places (Pattern and place - notes from the UK) Opening: 12 September 2026 at 11:00 - 3 October 2026 Participating: Elisca du Toit The exhibition will be opened by Pieter van Heerden, followed by Colette du Toit on the piano.
Artist's Statement: This body of work comes from travelling and looking closely; mainly inspired by a recent visit to the UK: Chelsea, London, Newbury and Highclere Castle in Hampshire. While travelling, I observe and sketch details that draw my attention - Doors, archways, pillars, windows, shutters, staircases, etc. I use my drawings and photographs as reference in my work. I was also influenced by visits to classic English design Houses such as Howe, Colefax and Fowler. My work explores how a patterned border or decorated plate can hold a memory of a place. I use plates, because a plate itself holds memories. In English Interiors, decorative plates are collected and displayed like art. The circular border creates perfect order and allows a place to be contained and cherished.
