 Die Jaar Daarna Opening: 14 June 2026 at 15:00 - 23 June 2026 Participating: Michael Heyns We invite you to join us as we look back, remember, and celebrate the incredible life and legacy of Michael Heyns, marking one year since his passing on 17 June last year. This commemorative exhibition offers a rare opportunity to appreciate – and bring into your own home – the lasting beauty he left behind.
Lukas McDonald captures the journey of this past year so beautifully in his tribute: ‘Die Jaar daarna’… Michael F Heyns Afskeid neem is vir almal verskillend. Die wete dat iets verander het kom lê soos swart roet van ‘n veldbrand op jou gemoed. Net so dat jy nog kan asem haal, maar die lug ruik anders. Na ‘n paar dae is die lug weer skoner maar die veld lê swart en kaal. Dan begin dit weer reën en die gras begin weer groen bot. Die bome en wilde struike kry weer lewe en na ses maande lyk die veld soveel meer groener. Tog as jy mooi kyk kan jy nog die swart gebrande stompe sien gryp na die lug. Die miershoop se swart roet lê styf teen sy lyf. Dis hoe my jaar verloop het. Aardse goed het baie dieselfde gebly maar daardie swart gebrande stomp-arm is nog daar. Die slaapkamer wat anders is, die werktafel wat nie meer verf op het nie. Die lees van nog ‘n mooi gedig nie meer daar nie. Dan weer die groen wat uitloop soos sy skilderye jou siel weer oopbreek vir nuwe goeters raaksien, ander inspirasie kry. Jou moed en krag gee om aan te gaan. Die mooi en dieper dinge in sy werke nog steeds te kan beleef. Dit is wat ons wil onthou na ‘n jaar; Michael se kuns wat ons nog om ons het! Kom geniet hier by Galery Michael Heyns, die jaar daarna. Kom sit stil in die tuin vir ‘n oomblik. Vee jou hand oor die keramiek beeld, kyk weer mooi na die werke wat hang, raak stil in jou siel en wees bly dat hy vir ons iets nagelaat het wat ons kan koester. – Lukas McDonald (Junie 2026) Come and experience the pieces he left behind – art that continues to open our souls, inspire us, and bring comfort.
