David Krut Projects is pleased to present Grass You Can Swim In, a solo exhibition by Heidi Fourie. The exhibition consists of new paintings, monotypes and etchings created in collaboration with the David Krut Workshop in 2020.
Heidi Fourie is a contemporary artists based in Pretoria. She has been collaborating with DKW since 2017 - having produced a series watercolour monotypes and participating in a number of group exhibitions. This solo exhibition will showcase the artists first series of etchings alongside a new body of monotypes and paintings.
Grass You Can Swim In includes imagery inspired by Fourie's admiration of the Highveld Grasses of Gauteng - a newfound appreciation that developed during South Africa's lockdown period of 2020. Not only did the artist produce a series of new paintings in her studio, but Heidi also experimented with a medium that is new to her, by collaborating with Printer Kim-Lee Loggenberg at the David Krut Workshop on a series of etchings. The process, for Fourie, has been similar to the creation of desire paths: learning the language of a new medium through intuitive choices, made possible by the support of an experienced technician. The etchings resonate with the monotypes and paintings in their fluency of line, sensitivity to light and shadow and hushed fields of colour; and provide additional insight into a period of isolation.
