 Moving Spaces Opening: 22 November 2025 at 11:30 - 22 January 2026 Participating: Various Artists Moving Spaces is a multidisciplinary showcase of portfolios by senior students in the Visual Multimedia Arts programmes at the University of South Africa, in the Department of Art and Music.
The exhibition comprises artworks by VMA Honours students alongside those by BA VMA final-year students and explores a variety of concepts stemming from personal, societal, or collective concerns. The title of the exhibition, Moving Spaces, denotes a rich diversity of shifts and movements through landscapes of perception, while directing attention to the ways beliefs, opinions, and perspectives can be challenged and how static worldviews can be subverted through visual exploration. The viewers of this exhibition will be offered a contemplation on a multitude of themes ranging from alternative landscapes and social commentaries to personal histories and excavations of identity. These thematic concepts are explored by the students through a wide spectrum of media such as sculptural installations, two-dimensional expressions employing pastels, printing, painting, embroidery, drawing, as well as mixed media, animation, and video.
Foremostly, the exhibition, Moving Spaces, celebrates the achievements of senior Visual Multimedia Art students in the Department of Art and Music and promotes diversity of artistic expression.
The exhibition will be opened by Dr. Daniel Mosako, Acting COD of the Department of Art and Music, Dr Ania Krajewska, Coordinator of the VMA Honours programme, and Mr Andrew Smith, Coordinator of the third-level BA VMA programme.
