![]() The Intertwined Nature of Utopia and Dystopia15 June 2025 Participating: Andrea du Plessis, Alet Ries, Carl Jeppe, Corné van EckCorné van Eck, Sanet du Plessis A mixed media exhibition.
Dystopia A society characterized by oppression, control, and a bleak future. Dystopian societies are often characterized by oppressive regimes, environmental degradation, and a loss of personal freedoms. A place where living conditions are extremely bad or unpleasant Utopia An ideal society, comprising of an ideal existence where life is perfect and perceived as superior. Utopian and dystopian societies are intertwined, with dystopias often emerging from the imperfections of utopian ideals. Utopias, while aiming for perfection, can also inadvertently lead to oppressive social controls or disregard for individual freedoms. While they are often presented as opposing concepts, the journey from a dystopia to a utopia, is a nuanced theme. “Within every dystopia, there's a little utopia.” - Margaret Atwood This exhibition captures elements that occur in both worlds. Join us and enjoy refreshments, meet the artists, and immerse yourself in the elements that occur in both these worlds. The exhibition will be opened by Carl Jeppe.
