 Umhlaba / The World11 August 2022 - 1 September 2022 Though highly versatile, Bongi Bengu’s artwork is a social commentary about her life. Over the years her work has been evolving and transforming in texture and depth, she has worked with soils, collage and clay. Her recent output – utilising leaves- and engagement with nature, preserving, questioning and re- interpreting the meaning of life and its organisms, speaks of the process of decay and renewal (of life). It also echoes her experience of exile and homecoming.
“The World / Umhlaba” The Solo Exhibition by Bongi Bengu at the Alliance Francaise du Pretoria , (which is not only a French Learning Institute but also a Cultural Event Centre at the hub of diplomatic embassies and Loftus stadium) will be express her journey and features artworks that reaffirm her love for rich textured surfaces. The work is about layering textures, experiences, and emotions. Finally, the exhibition features some new work inspired her fascination with the magic of tarot alchemy.
