In 'What Makes Your Heart Fly' Sizwe Sama's first solo exhibition, he playfully asks where happiness resides and how far people are willing to go in order to attain this feeling of lightness. Sizwe's work intends to celebrate the little things that lead to a sense of fulfilment and serves as a reminder that happiness is not a destination, but rather an ongoing pursuit. 

 

Sizwe Sama is one of the recipients of the phase two of the Young/Unframed Exhibition Bursary funded by the African Artists' Foundation and the National Arts Council. He describes himself as a vibrant and dynamic individual. His work is an ode to single mothers and the queer community. From the bold hand-stitched compositions and intricately designed patterns to the sensitivity of his technique, as a self-taught artist Sizwe creates conversations and reflections about matters most important to him.
