Cleaning instruction (2003)
Found materials, TV monitor and Video machine
A small rusted ammunition trunk is placed on a white bedside trolley as seen in hospitals.
Inside the trolley a small TV monitor with the gun being carefully cleaned is visible through the side of the trunk.
Inside the trolley a cleaning kit for a gun is placed next to a first aid kit, everything still packaged and unused.
On the rail of the trolley hangs a clean white towel and under the trolley is a dish full of discarded pieces of "2X4" clothe, used for cleaning a gun.
Next to the bedside trolley on the floor is an ammunition case that has been transformed into a first aid trunk.
In this work the concept of cleaning a wound and cleaning a gun is played off against each other. Focus is placed on the careful ritual cleaning of a gun, which during wartime becomes a daily routine that is carried out like a clinical operation.
