The Red Carpet (2002)

The Red Carpet (2002)
Mixed Media & Rusted Metal
The installation The Red Carpet places focus on the vulnerability of ordinary people and children who become victims of political events and social realities. The red carpet is a metaphor for power and also for the frailty of human beings, as it suggests the flowing of blood. The remnants of people, the rusted clothes and other objects, are presented within the context of the structures that impact their lives.
The "real" objects in the installation are echoed on screen; the video monitors and technology that are visible as part of the work "mediate" and "present" the real events. Our reality is shaped as much by them as by those with political power.
At present I work with artifacts of our time and try to transform them into archaeological relics, revealing human pathos and weakness.
