Strauss & Co hosts masterclasses over 3 days

Strauss & Co Johannesburg's Masterclass series runs from Monday 29 to Wednesday 31 July and covers a diverse set of topics:
The theme for Day 1, Monday 29 July, is Contemplating African Art. Listen to fascinating talks on the rise of contemporary African art, hear from the exciting young photographer Tsoku Maele and Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for Jazz Mandla Mlangeni, and gain insights into woven wire bowls and creativity in KZN.
On Day 2 you Explore our Past. Topics cover gardens in South African art, fashion and social justice, beadwork and abstract design, and perspectives on the artist Andrew Verster. A documentary on the work of architect Norman Eaton, In Search of Our Own, will be screened.
Day 3 engages in Conversations with Curators, and includes Ann Roberts (from The Mixed Reality Workshop), Cate Terblanche (on the Sasol Corporate Collection) and Wilhelm van Rensburg (on the exhibition A Meeting of Minds: Louis Khela Maqhubela and Douglas Portway). Steven Sack talks on the history and traditions of Lesotho blankets and Prof Federico Freschi discusses the role of Johannesburg's commercial gallerists from the 1950s to the 1970s.
