Painting Workshops with Greg Kerr in 2020 Posted on 18 November 2019
Greg Kerr's art workshops are well known for their diversity, professional rigour and focus on the individual student's personal growth. The teaching is conducted in year-long programmes that include on-line preparation and critical feedback, and four 4-day practical workshops over the year. The classes are designed to extend the technical, critical and theoretical repertoire of advanced students and to provide appropriate support to those wishing to take a foundation art education, such as matric art or basic art classes, to a professional level. A high percentage of students who register are professional artists looking for critical, theoretical and practical rejuvenation. The theme for 2020 centres on skills related to the accessing and exploitation of visual and conceptual source material in the generation of personal imagery. The first workshop will use pastel as the painting medium and will include specific technical instruction in this tricky material. The other three workshops concentrate on acrylic and oil painting. The fees for the year are R11,000 in Port Elizabeth and R12000 in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Greg Kerr has had nearly 50 years of art teaching experience, 44 of them at tertiary level. He taught at the Johannesburg College of Education, the University of Georgia, the Technikon Witwatersrand and the University of Stellenbosch before starting his own art school, Greg Kerr Fine Art, in 2001. He holds degrees in English Language and Literature and Fine Arts and is a PhD in Critical Theory and Aesthetics. He has had 27 solo exhibitions since his first in 1982 and continues to paint when not in the teaching studio. Registration for the 2020 programme is now open and would-be students are invited to contact Greg on gregkerr@yebo.co.za for more detailed information.
