As part of their dedication to supporting museums in South Africa, Strauss & Co is proud to present its twenty-fifth auction of the year in support of Norval Foundation on 9 December 2021. "Strauss & Co is delighted to join forces with Norval Foundation and head sponsor Stonehage, in showcasing this outstanding selection of fully donated artworks, bespoke experiences and fine wine to be sold to benefit Norval Foundation and their Education Programme, and we invite patrons of Norval Foundation and our clients to lend their support to this worthy cause", says Bina Genovese, Strauss & Co's joint Managing Director. Norval Foundation is unique in South Africa as a centre for art and cultural expression. Dedicated to the research, education and exhibition of 20th- and 21st-century visual art from South Africa and beyond. Located in the Steenberg area of Cape Town, adjacent to Table Mountain National Park, the Norval Foundation combines the experience of art with an appreciation for nature. The sculpture garden, outdoor amphitheatre, purpose-built exhibition spaces and research library are situated in a unique setting that offers visitors a multisensory experience. The hybrid (in-person and online) event will comprise of one session at 7.15pm. All twenty-two lots are one hundred percent donated by artists, galleries, patrons and businesses and the auction is generously made possible through the flagship sponsorship of Stonehage Fleming. "We are delighted to be collaborating with Strauss & Co for our 2021 Norval Foundation Benefit Auction. While the last year and a half has been challenging for museums the world over, this auction will assist us to continue connecting the public with the practices of leading artists from South Africa and across the continent. We're deeply grateful to the artists and businesses who have so generously donated to this auction as well as to Stonehage Fleming, our major sponsor alongside Strauss & Co, for their support", says Owen Martin, Director, Norval Foundation. The money raised by the auction will contribute to the museum's future education programme and facilities, as well as the ongoing exhibitions programme that focuses primarily on making art available to people of all backgrounds. The museum has already hosted 23 world class exhibitions since it opened in 2018 that discuss pertinent historical themes and expose extraordinary artistic talent from the continent. "I am particularly proud of our work in arts education and the way that the institution is being shaped for the future, welcoming families and scholars alike. We've weathered a global pandemic that saw many arts organisations close, and we're intent on emerging stronger from this experience," says Louis Norval, Founder and Chairman, Norval Foundation. Bidders can register on the Strauss & Co website. Viewing open on 7 and 9 December 2021, 9:00am - 5:00pm at Norval Foundation.
