Artist Statement

My artwork is based on my grandmother. I did not have to search for utopia in a youniverse, because within her presence I found a person who was the complete opposite of what a narcissistic person is. I believe she is in heaven, a synonym for utopia; which is an imagined place or state in which everything is perfect.

There are three symbols in my digital artwork which represents this utopia. Firstly I constructed a pattern of leaves. My love for leaves symbolises my love for her. The bubbles represent freedom, as she was bedridden for the last few years of her life. I imagine in heaven her spirit is free. The window with the light shaft resembles her saviour Jesus Christ.

I superimposed a portrait photograph of her over the entire image and it brightened up all the colours in my artwork. She brightened up my life with her presence.
