Abdullah Abdurahman

Dr. Abdullah Abdurahman was a trained Medical Doctor with a profound interest in not only the physical health of his patients, but also a keen interest in the political ideologies that embody a healthy society. Although Dr. Abdurahman attended university in Glasgow, he returned to the Cape to practice his trade. Due to his interest and achievements within the South African political arena, he was elected to be the first non-white member of the Cape Town City Council in 1904. At first he was met with hostility from the Council, but due to his charming nature, administrative skills and political insight, he became a respected member. Dr. Abdurahman was a gifted orator and a charismatic leader, and he was specifically interested in Health and Education.

Cissie Gool

Zainunnisa Gool was better known as Cissie. Her father was Dr. Abdullah Abdurahman. Cissie Gool was the leader of the National Liberation League. She was also an Advocate and a representative on the Cape Town City Council. Cissie Gool was a well-­-educated and successful woman. She attended Trafalgar High School, which was founded by her father, and was tutored by both Olive Schreiner and M.K. Ghandi. She was awarded the Order of Luthuli (Silver) for her contribution to the Freedom Struggle.
