Pixley ka Isaka Seme (1881 – 1951) was a founder and President of the African National Congress. He was born in Natal, and after attending a Mission School in Inanda moved to the USA wehre he studied law. He returned to South Africa in 1910 and began practicing as a lawyer in Johannesburg.

He established the South African Native Farmers Association that promoted personal independence among black farm workers through the purchase of land. He later formed a part of the group that would establish an organization that would unify African groups. This organization became known as the South African Native National Congress, which was later renamed the African National Congress. He preceded J.T. Gumede as the President of the ANC (1930 – 1936).
