le musée du dessin et de l’estampe originaleThe Museum of Original Drawing and Printing is the only French museum dedicated to printed works. Located in the heart of a remarkably preserved fortified city, the museum is located in the historic buildings of the Arsenal: the Powder Rooms (1742), the Pilier Room (1680), the guardhouse (1741) and the bread oven casemate (1528). The Museum of Original Drawing and Printing preserves an important collection of graphic works, nearly 21,000 works, mainly engravings, covering the period from the 15th century to the present day. The collections include major works such as Dürer's Apocalypse, the engraved works of Eugène Leroy, engravings by Goya and Picasso, an important contemporary collection... However, for reasons of sensitivity to light and for their good conservation, the Works cannot be exhibited continuously, they are presented in rotation. The exhibition of the collections, called (im)permanent, is renewed three times a year. Through this continuous movement of works, the museum constantly highlights the richness of the collections. The (im)permanent exhibition is presented in two forms, either an educational exhibition with the history of prints and printing processes as a common thread (with tools, presses and matrices next to the works), or an exhibition folder highlights a particular point of the collection around an artist or a subject. Temporary exhibitions help demonstrate the particularity and diversity of the practice of printmaking, its dynamism and its relevance. Thematic or monographic, they present the art of the multiple, intimate and generous. The engraving workshops and the actions carried out there to raise public awareness through practice, the very complete library open to the public, the artist residencies, the shop which notably offers museum editions: catalogs and original prints , finally the quality of the collection, make this museum a place of reference.
