Turbulence & transience: Clouds & Water 2003 | Tina Skukan Gallery Pretoria

Artist Photo

Water and clouds convey a primordial duality, revealing both the order and chaos of nature, the random and the symmetrical aspects of living systems. Furthermore, they reflect the never-to-be-repeated, the unique, the transient. Turbulence is the quintessential symbol of chaos, and like other forms of chaos, it is paradox.: In the midst of its disorderly motion, vortexes may appear and remain stable while the disorderly current boils around them. The artist is fascinated by the dynamic forces of storm clouds building, water in motion, sand dunes shifting. The physical world does not stay still. It is rooted in transience, in passages between life and death.
