Basie Yssel passed away suddenly on Thursday 21 December, 2006

Taught sculpture and drawing at the Department of fine and applied arts Technikon Pretoria, and produced work in both these fields. He was an expert in the application of computers as a tool in the making of fine arts.

He held numerous one-person exhibitions and took part in group exhibitions, competitions and workshops, such as the 1995 and 1997 International Sculpture Workshops held at Technikon Pretoria. His last exhibition was at Harry's Pancakes, Pretoria, in October 2006. He received many commissions, for example, trophies for the HSRC, MNet and ABSA Bank.
