2014

Many, if not most, South Africans have a religious upbringing. We are taught that God will protect us and we are taught to have faith in His Word. In 2014, however, South Africa is inundated with crime and violence which put these theories to the test. Broken glass and bullet holes are relics of the crime we face on a daily basis.

My work for this exhibition combines the Word of God with shattered windshield glass. The horrible beauty of the glass shards obscures the Word in some areas while the Word is clearly visible in others - symbolic of the push-and-pull between faith and fear - a spiritual and psychological battle faced by most of us.
