Artist Biography

Annelise Bowker has been lecturing art since 1981 at various tertiary institutions and is since 2005 involved at the University of Pretoria as a Fine Art Education lecturer. She has participated in numerous national exhibitions, held solo exhibitions and has been selected to take part in numerous international Biennials and Triennials . She is a collagraph printmaker and has received special mention and certificates for prints submitted to the Kemptonpark Ekurhuleni Fine Arts competition, the Printmaking Bienniale in Poland and the Trienniale Mondiale d’ Estamps Petit format in France and is recently selected to take part in the 2008 7th Kochi International Triennial of prints in Japan.

In her recent exhibition entitled ‘landscape…looking in…looking out’, the environment played a mayor role as the driving force behind the execution of her collagraphs. The works were inspired by rich textured surfaces, found objects, rusted metal, recycled materials, stains on walls etc. Collagraph has its own individual character that guides and determines the end result and it is these challenges that she find highly stimulating in producing intricate layered and colourful works.

Her work is presented in the following public and corporate collections: Rand Merchant Bank, Telkom, University of Potchefstroom, Sandvik-Canada, Sandvik – South Africa, Cliental Life, SasolMuseum Raciborz-Poland, Library of Rijeka-Croatia, Natref, Potchefstroom Museum, Brainwave- Johannesburg
